The signing ceremony for a joint doctoral training agreement between the Beijing-based Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) and Macquarie University located in Sydney was held at the Academic Hall 602 of CUFE's campus on July 5. Representatives of Macquarie University included Leonie Tickle, executive dean of the Business School; Zhuo Jin, research director of the Department of Actuarial Studies and Business Analytics; and Colin Zhang, teaching director of the said department. Attendees from CUFE included Wang Hui, dean of the Graduate School; Liu Zhidong, dean of the School of Management Science and Engineering; and Zhou Hua, dean of the School of Insurance and the China Institute for Actuarial Science. Also in attendance were CUFE's Jiang Xuanyu, associate dean of the School of Accountancy; Dou Chao, associate dean of the Business School and the School of Business for Science and Technology; and Zheng Sujin, associate dean of the School of Insurance and the China Institute for Actuarial Science. The ceremony was hosted by Ma Bing, associate dean of CUFE's School of Insurance and China Institute for Actuarial Science.

Representatives of both sides discuss joint doctoral training

Representatives of both universities reflected on over a decade of friendly cooperation. Wang Hui emphasized that CUFE has long been committed to cultivating high-level international talent. The agreement represents a deepening and upgrading of the existing cooperation between the two institutions, establishing a standardized framework for joint doctoral training. Wang Hui also expressed her hope that both universities will leverage their strengths in risk management and insurance, actuarial science, business analytics and accounting to jointly nurture young researchers in terms of their global competitiveness. Leonie Tickle declared that the signing marks a key milestone in the collaboration between both universities. By capitalizing on their academic strengths in risk management, insurance, actuarial science, business analytics and accounting, Macquarie University will devote every effort to promote joint training and academic research collaboration — with the expectation of producing more high-quality cooperative outcomes.

Participants engaged in lively discussions about the implementation plan for the joint doctoral training and reached consensus, before Wang Hui and Leonie Tickle signed the cooperative framework agreement in the presence of representatives of both sides.

The accord creates a broader academic platform for doctoral students from both universities and signifies a step toward deeper and broader cooperation. Under the framework agreement, an innovative "dual-supervisor system" and "dual-degree" awarding mechanism will be established. Doctoral students selected for the program will be registered at both universities, enjoying joint supervision from dual advisors, opportunities for international study visits, and access to the high-quality training and research resources of both institutions. On completing the required training modules and successfully defending their dissertations, students will receive doctoral degrees from both CUFE and Macquarie University. The program, led by CUFE's School of Insurance and China Institute for Actuarial Science, covers various business fields — including risk management and insurance, actuarial science, management science and engineering, accounting and business administration.
