The finals of the 29th China University Student Tennis Championship were held from July 24 to Aug 1 in Huzhou city, East China's Zhejiang province. The tennis team from the Beijing-based Central University of Finance and Economics, also known as CUFE, did a sterling job. Under the leadership of head coach Zhang Yifan, the CUFE tennis team sent eight athletes to compete in the Men's and Women's A and D groups (the professional athletes' group). Sun Jian, an undergraduate enrolled in CUFE's School of Accountancy in 2024, won third place in the Men's A group singles. The team also achieved ninth place in the Women's A group team event, as well as in both the Men's and Women's D group team events.

During the competition, defending champion Sun Jian persevered despite an unexpected injury — demonstrating resilience and once again standing on the podium at the national finals. Two students from the Sports Training Program (Tennis Specialization), which began enrolling in 2025, competed in group D, and achieved commendable results — representing CUFE's first participation in the category.

The said tennis championship — hosted by the Federation of Chinese University and School Sports — is the biggest, highest-level and most prestigious national tennis event for institutions of higher learning in China. This year's event saw unprecedented scale and strong competition, with 215 such institutions and over 1,500 athletes participating.

CUFE consistently upholds the principle of holistic education covering moral, intellectual, physical, aesthetic and labor aspects, deeply cultivating a campus sports education system. The university continuously promotes the development of tennis on campus through regular training, professional coaching, and high-level competitions to inspire its players and to foster a positive campus sports atmosphere. Moreover, CUFE's tennis team adheres to the spirit of perseverance and never giving up, consistently achieving outstanding results and breakthroughs in national-level competitions.
