Frontier Forum on 'Technology + Business' and inauguration ceremony of the School of Business for Science and Technology at CUFE

TheFrontier Forum on "Technology + Business", themed "Building Business Disciplines for the Integration of Technology and Business", was held at the Academic Hall 202 of the Central University of Finance and Economics (CUFE) on May 31. The event also marked the inauguration of the CUFE's School of Business for Science and Technology. The forum focused on the deep integration of technology and business, as well as the transformation and upgrading of business education, aiming to facilitate the high-quality development of business education in the new era. The opening ceremony was hosted by Yang Ying, deputy secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) CUFE Committee.

In his speech, CUFE President Ma Haitao emphasized that global tech competition is undergoing profound changes, making the transformation of tech achievements into business a key element of developing new quality productive forces. This, in turn, makes the establishment of a school of business for science and technology an imperative for institutions of higher learning today. The establishment of the school at the CUFE is a strategic initiative to transform and upgrade traditional business management programs, as well as to seize the high ground in future business education, Ma said. The CUFE will provide comprehensive support in terms of developing discipline, recruiting talent, and allocating resources for the development of the school. He has three expectations for the school, he said: First, to explore how to build an independent knowledge system with Chinese characteristics and following CUFE style; second, to be a leader in cultivating interdisciplinary innovative talent and establishing the CUFE MBA brand for science and technology; and third, to serve as a think tank supporting national strategies by providing high-quality intellectual support for the transformation of tech achievements and the development of tech industries.

Yue Li, deputy secretary of the CPC Beijing Haidian District Committee, congratulated the CUFE for establishing the School of Business for Science and Technology. He said Haidian, the core of Beijing as an international science and technology innovation center, is working hard to streamline the conversion chain in order to transform innovation intonew quality productive forces. The establishment of the school is a positive response to national strategies, and offers a strong tool to address challenges such as the shortage of talent for tech transformation and information asymmetry. Expressing hope that the school will cultivate more interdisciplinary talent in the integrated "Technology + Business" field, Yue said Haidian district will continue to provide services and support, deepening collaboration between the university and the district.

Zhao Shiwei, deputy director of theManagement Committee of Beijing Future Science City anddeputy mayor of Beijing’s Changping district, said that Changping, an important area for the development of Beijing as an international science and technology innovation center, is rich in scientific and educational talent. Having a campus in Changping, the CUFE has long been an integral part of regional economic development. Stressing that the direction of the School of Business for Science and Technology aligns with the industrial layout of Changping, he said Changping district will continue to support the university's development, building platforms for university-enterprise cooperation and promoting the school as a new contributor to the transformation of tech achievements.

The CUFE's School of Business for Science and Technology was officially inaugurated during the forum.

In his keynote speech, CUFE Vice President Li Jianjun proposed that the School of Business for Science and Technology build a three-dimensional, "Technology + Management + Ethics" development system to cultivate interdisciplinary management talent that can master technology and lead industries. Ye Qiang, executive dean of the Faculty of Business for Science and Technology and the School of Management of the University of Science and Technology of China, shared with the participants the university's experience in establishing the "business artificial intelligence" undergraduate program. He stressed that artificial intelligence (AI) will empower business education, and that a "broad-spectrum" talent cultivation model is needed for the future. Hong Tao, co-dean of theAI Business School of the Zhongguancun Academy, said that AI has moved from merely enhancing efficiency to reshaping decision-making processes. The core competitiveness of enterprises lies in their ability to use AI in order to make better decisions, he said. Lin Song, dean of the CUFE'sBusiness School and School of Business for Science and Technology, narrated the results of the initial explorations of the schools in talent cultivation and the building of an independent knowledge system. Jiao Hao, director of theDepartment of Digital Economy and Management of Beijing Normal University's Business School, shared with the participants his insights on constructing an independent Chinese management theory based on case studies.

A forum on the building of national-level first-class undergraduate programs was held on the afternoon of May 31, where representatives from different universities engaged in in-depth discussions on the digital and intelligent transformation of business management programs, talent cultivation, and development challenges. The discussions were followed by a roundtable forum, where experts from renowned domestic business journals discussed the leading trends in business research on the deep integration of technology and business, providing practical advice on topic selection and contributions for participating scholars.
