On Dec 10, the results of the sixth round of the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practiceswere officially released at the 2025 International Seminar on Global Poverty Reduction Partnerships. The targeted education support for Tanchang county, Longnan city of Gansu province by the Central University of Finance and Economics—Empowering Education for Rural Vitalization Through the“1+N”Model—was selected as a Global Best Poverty Reduction Case.

Since launching its targeted assistance program for Tanchang county in 2019, CUFE has adhered to the guidance of Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Eraand fully implemented central and ministerial policy arrangements. Guided by the principle of“addressing Tanchang's needs with CUFE's strengths,”the university has focused on local livelihood development and talent cultivation needs,leveraging its disciplinary advantages in education, finance and economicsto place education assistance at the core of its poverty reduction efforts. In response to challenges such as limited educational resources and insufficient investment, CUFE has innovatively developed the“1+N”coordinated education support model, targeting children and adolescents in Tanchang. Centered on the dual approach of enhancing intellectual capacity and strengthening aspiration, the model delivers diversified support through multiple pathways, including academic tutoring, health promotion, psychological counseling, care for children with special needs, improvements to educational infrastructure, and teacher training. This integrated approach combines“intellectual support and motivational support,”“external assistance and endogenous capacity building,”and“infrastructure upgrades with talent and skill development,”effectively addressing educational inequality, stimulating internal development momentum, and helping to break the intergenerational transmission of poverty.
Over the past five years, CUFE has dispatched six resident assistance cadres to Tanchangcounty anditsvillages, as well as 40 members of teaching support teams to local schools. The university has directly invested or helped mobilize more than 100 million yuan in assistance funds, benefiting over 32,000 teachers and students. These efforts not only successfully helped lift Tanchang out of poverty, but also promoted high-quality development of rural education. CUFE has received the highest rating in the central government's annual evaluation of designated assistance work for five consecutive years, demonstrating the university's strong commitment and effective practice in education-based poverty alleviation.
The sixth round of the Global Solicitation on Best Poverty Reduction Practiceswas jointly initiated by seven organizations, including the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, the International Fund for Agricultural Development, the World Food Programme, and the China Internet Information Center. A total of 108 cases were selected worldwide, with a focus ontheir beingsustainable, replicable, feasible, and inclusive for vulnerable groups. CUFE’s case will be included in the Global Poverty Reductionand Inclusive Growth Portalanditscase database, contributing China’s university-based experience to the international community.
During the seminar, Wang Yourong, associate professor from the School of Management Science and Engineering at CUFE, was invited as a guest speaker and delivered a keynote speech on frontier issues in global poverty reduction.
